Well, howdy, Christina Nagel, didn’t we just meet you yesterday when we took a look at Giorgio Armani Si? Uhuh, we did, and she’s back again today, putting her scent stamp all over the September launching juice from Jo Malone, Peony and Blush Suede, from €48 for 30ml.

Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede 100ml bottle

Nagel’s worked with the brand a lot in recent years, whipping up fruity concoctions like English Pear and Freesia (which oddly I like a lot) and this is a bit of a different beast to the lighter, brighter fragrances the brand has released of late.

It’s billed as a fruity floral but while it’s very floral, it’s not so fruity – to my nose – and for that I’m pretty thankful. It is sweet, but not saccharine, and so it manages to avoid the vile fruitichouli category so many fragrances fall into these days.

In fact, for a fruity floral, it’s a very sophisticated one. There are notes of red apple, jasmine, peonies, rose and honey plus something that made me do a Harry Potter-esque doubletake: gillyflower. No, not gillyweed. Turns out it’s a sharper green note to keep things on the less sugary side.

Well balanced, this launches in the standard two sizes as well as with a candle, which’ll cost €50.

So will I wear it? Actually I won’t: it’s just that little bit too girly for green note-ed me I’m afraid but for someone who’s grown up on sugar-soaked juice and who now wants something that’s more elegant and refined – you’ll love it. Young brides and debutantes too: put it on the list.
