Laura Mercier’s MO has always been me but better; wearable, simple makeup. Shades have always erred on the cautious: rose tones for lips, taupes, chocolates and neutrals for eyes and beautiful foundation and skin tints were the core of the company.
Sitting quietly alongside its similar pal Bobbi Brown, it was always a brand with a cachet. But when even Bobbi Brown starts doing brights and funner bits and bobs, it’s time to up your game.
So Laura Mercier has. It’s been ages since I’ve tried anything from the brand and while I don’t have anything from this launch I do have a couple of the new liner pencils and a Rouge Nouveau lipstick, all of which’re very nice.
The AW13 Dark Spell collection is pretty standout though, eh? It’s all about smouldering eyes, gleaming skin and dramatic – or subtle – lips, depending on your preference. With several limited edition products new to the line, there are also some items that are already existing and which’ll stay.
This is the star of the show: it’s Spellbound face illuminator and it’s €45. Limited, so you know the drill.
There are three eyeshadows, all €27, as part of the collection, two baked ones, Magical and Mystical (top and bottom left), and one satin matte in Dark Spirit. In the lineup already is the brand’s standout shadow primer, Laura Mercier Eye Canvas, €34, top right. We’ll also see a limited edition Kohl Liner Extreme, €27, and an existing Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Smoke, €30, as part of the collection.
I love the look of the two nail shades. They’re limited edition, cost €19 and come in Bewitched and Forbidden.
Lastly we’ve got four lip options, only one of which is a new, limited product and that’s the Lip Plumper in Charmed (left), €36. We’ve also got Lip Plumper in Rose Flush and two Creme Smooth Lip Colours in Merlot and Angelic, €30 each.
So, what’s floating your beauty boat? Lemme know in a comment.
