If you had €300 to spend on a handbag, would you spend it at Dunnes? I’m betting that’s a gamble the buying team at the store are hoping will pay off with shoppers, especially in the run up to Christmas.
Part of the new Carolyn Donnelly Edit range, the croc-effect leather shopper is €299, comes with a detachable cross-body strap and handles and is cotton-lined.
Donnelly’s homewears line for Dunnes has been a massive hit and along with her former sidekick Liz Quinn, their joint brand Quinn and Donnelly was one of Ireland’s powerhouse fashion brands in the eighties and nineties, so she has fashion cachet among an older consumer – who may well be entirely happy about that €300 purchase.
That’s who Dunnes is aiming for, I’m imagining, and not their younger customer, more accustomed to throwaway bag purchases for nights out and happy with cheaper pleather offerings for day-to-day.

Here’s how the bag looks in-store; what do you think? A must-have or a leave alone? Drop a comment and let me know.
