Thanks Sir Mix-a-Lot, you helped me out loads with that title there. I do indeed like big bottles of posh wash, and no, I cannot lie: expensive and all as is to be, er, washing this stuff right down the drain, there’s just something about non-supermarket shower gel that really appeals to me: scent, unctuousness, pumpy bottles; I don’t precisely know.

What I am sure of is that I definitely enjoy starting my morning more with Molton Brown than I do with Aldi’s lookalikey Abbot & Broome. Soz for your Loz, Aldi.

These are the three currently in my shower. Luv yiz all, lads.

  • Bliss Soapy Suds in Grapefruit and Aloe, €22
Bliss has an elastic band-type relationship with Ireland. It’s here, it’s not here. It snaps back; it pings off again. Now available at Marks and Spencer beauty halls, I am a long-time devotee of Soapy Suds for a few reasons: cool packaging, gorgeous scents; nice, easy-dispense pump which saves product, meaning your €22 actually seems like not a half-bad spend two months later, when you’re still looking at it down the end of the bath. Next on my list is Blood Orange and White Pepper, which is divine. Yum yum!
  • Molton Brown Pink Pepperpod Body Wash, €22
Sent to me from Arnotts, where the brand is now in situ, it took me ages to try it because I hate pink pepperpods, don’t I? Associated in my mind with teenage celebrity scents, when I tried this I was surprised – and gratified – by its earthy unisexuality. If that is a word. Well hey! It is now. Not sweet in the slightest, this will please a man as well as a woman, but if you insist on light, fresh citrus or florals in the morning, you may not like it. I find I do, but am not in the mood for it every day.
  • L’Occitane Verbena shower gel, €17.50
This is my absolute favourite shower gel4Eva. I just adore L’Occitane’s entire Verbena collection and its sharp citrus aroma is a brilliant way to wake up. I get all my best ideas in the shower and I’m totally crediting this for at least 50% of them. Lovely, amazing stuff. By the way, this one is part of a Christmas gift box, and the 250ml is €17.50 – and it is oh-so-worth it.

Now, to the comments with you: am I mad, bad and dangerous to know, encouraging such spending on what’s basically liquid soap, or are you also a secret posh washer?
