So it’s colder than ever and the skies are permanently grey but that won’t stop the beauty wheels a-turning, and the spring collections are dropping as you read. There are more highlighters and pastels and coloured mascaras than I have adjectives to describe, but there are also some seriously standout products that have my heartbeat quickened, even as my wallet quakes in fear.
1. Pucker up
Launching this month, Estee Lauder’s Pure Colour Envy lipsticks are probably the nicest thing to touch my lips in a very long time – Himself’s recent face fuzz notwithstanding. Texture wise, these are in a league of their own; the gel formula literally glides across the lips and feels genuinely hydrating.
But, and here’s the clincher, unlike most balm-like lippies which disappear in minutes and can be a bit smooshy and feathery, these have just the right amount of slip and last for hours.
There are 20 shades in the range and about seven of them just have to be mine. At €29 a pop this will be more of a gradual acquiring than a humungous splurge but hey, they’re worth the wait.
2. Flush Blush
I’ve yet to see this up close and personal but the Clarins Cream Blush in Candy, €22, played havoc with my heartbeat when I saw the snaps online.
Done well, cream products are so effortless and give a soft, fresh and flattering effect that’s much more youthful than a powder finish. Clarins have never let me down so I’ll be visiting these on counter when they land on January 20th.
3. Magic Eyes
I feared we’d seen the last of Lancôme’s rather fabulous Hypnôse Ultra Dazzling eyeshadows with the limited edition Christmas shades, but my mind’s been put to rest with the spring collection.
Of the two available shades, Spinelle Rose and Topaze Dorée, both €27, it’s the latter that’s captured my heart with its rosy gold hues – perfect for bringing radiance and warmth to a face that’s feeling anything but.
4. Dream Cream
I can normally take or leave body lotions but L’Occitane’s new Ultra Soft Cream in Zesty Lime had me instantly hooked. Made with 10% shea butter, this is an unctuous winter skin saver that absorbs quickly but for me, it’s all about the scent; mouth-wateringly fresh and zingy, but light enough that it won’t overpower your perfume.
One of three new varieties of body butter for the brand, the others being Vanilla Bouquet and Rose Heart, this is €22 and out next month.
5. Pout About it
The first gloss I’ve craved in a decade, YSL’s Gloss Volupte is creamy, not sticky, and has a similar texture to the much loved Rouge Volupte lippies; all balmy and cushiony on the lips, and with the signature fruity YSL scent.
Packaging is predictably, heart-stoppingly gorgeous if not quite as elaborate as the lipstick casing – we’re missing the shade guide under the cut-out logo – and there’s enough variety of shades and finishes to keep everyone happy. I’m a fan of the curved doe-foot applicator, too, which pools the perfect amount of product to coat lips evenly in just one swoop.
So those are my picks for Spring – I’d love to know what you’re currently coveting!
