In last week’s gallery on (one of) the bags of the season, the sling-it-and-go mini satchel, Emma lamented the fact she still doesn’t own a Chanel 2.55 large flap bag which seems really unfair as she’s wanted one for as long as I’ve been friends with her. This is about three years, and we’ve done a lot of bag-based comisserating in pubs, which might go some way to explaining the lack of said tote.
But this really is the hip chick’s grab of choice: Kirsten Dunst, Diane Kruger and the ever ubiquitous Alexa all have ’em. Whether you’re a fan or not, there’s equally no doubt that there are homages everywhere for anyone looking to get the look for, well, a whole lot less.
I had a scout about, and here were the three I liked the most.
- Topshop’s quilted bag is unfortunately PU, not quite what you want for €50ish, but it does have a good shape and nice chain detailing.
- Head to ASOS for the middle of the bunch, which is also the cheapest-looking and priced. Leather-look, a very true-to-design and an under €25 price-point of €22.47.
- This, this I like a lot. It’s Moschino, which has made a career of knocking off Chanel’s quilting and charging loadsamoney for it. This fabric bag is enough alike and yet enough its own person (oh, you know what I mean) to be a covetable piece. Great strap detailing and it’s half price right now at €332. Get on that so if you want it.
So, all that info divulged, what I want to know is this: is the 2.55 a bag style you like in the first place?
