Despite the hilarious names of the sub-collections – products are grouped under the monikers Sexy, Sporty or Glam – there has been much favourable opining over the new Michael Kors beauty line.
Launching in Arnotts at the tail end of 2013, this is a capsule collection which includes lip, nail and body offerings along with bronzers and some very pleasant and wearable fragrances; there’s lots of scope to expand into base and eye products in the future. too.
Everything’s on the spendy side but is oh-so-glamorous with its gilded and gleaming ways. Yes, the packaging is ridiculously over the top and yes, you will spend half of your life wiping away fingerprints, but it’s just so unashamedly fabulous that you won’t really care.
Here you’re looking at Bombshell, one of three lip lacquer lipsticks and the shade assigned to the Sexy family (typing that feels wrong); the other two are Diva, a peachy nude, and Dame, a deep berry. All three are semi-sheer and very wearable, designed to slip right into your heart, life and makeup bag with minimum fuss or fanfare.
Falling somewhere between a YSL Rouge Volupte Shine and The Body Shop’s Colour Crush range, Bombshell is a juicy, face-enlivening pink that’s easy to wear and apply – I whack it on straight from the bullet – and is very forgiving of my slapdash ways. It’s not the longest lasting lipstick in the world but that tends to the flipside of something this slippy and hydrating and easy to wear.
If you’re a dyed in the wool lipstick lover and you like full coverage and lots of pigment, then you probably want to look elsewhere. But if you want low maintenance paired with high glamour, and you have €30.50 to spare, then go on frillseekers – fill yer boots.
