For a fast and simple eye choose cream shadow
Claire Danes rocked a metallic smokey eye look at the SAG awards recently which complimented her Vionnet dress and tousled hair perfectly. The overall effect is softer thanks to the shimmering purple/blue tones used rather than harsh black or grey, especially when accompanied by delicate rose petal lipgloss.
A matte or semi-matte complexion works best with metallic eye shadows as it allows their sparkle to be the focus. To copy-cat Claire’s red carpet makeup, start with an oil-free liquid foundation or tinted moisturiser applied using fingers (or a damp sponge if you prefer a slightly lighter coverage). Follow this with a creamy peach-toned blusher blended onto the apple of cheeks.
For a fast and simple smokey eye choose cream shadows, these blend easily and catch the light in a way that powder can’t – plus, there’s no chance of fall out on your cheeks when applying them. As a base start by working a deep navy, such as Clinique Chubby Stick in Massive Midnight (1), up into the socket line and under the lower lashes too. Pat on an iridescent purple like Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream eye shadow in Black Pearl (2) along the lower and upper lash line.
Add intensity by lining eyes with a highly pigmented black, soft kohl pencil (my favourite is Soap and Glory Smoulder Kohl (3)) before applying two-to-three coats of thickening black mascara (4). Yves Saint Laurent Gloss Volupte in Rose Orfevre is the perfect shade to finish off the whole look to give a polished, but not over-done feel.
