This look is fundamentally a modern take on the classic 1950s face
Fresh-faced beauty with a shot of colour on lips was the order of the day when it came to the spring/summer Prabal Gurung runway show at New York Fashion Week. This look, created by makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, is fundamentally a modern take on the classic 1950s face with shades of tangerine and neon pink replacing the standard-issue red lip. Perfect, almost doll-like skin completes the look.
A super-smooth base is key to this makeup, so begin by prepping skin with a primer such as BECCA Resurfacing Primer to even out your complexion, followed by a medium-coverage foundation and concealer where needed. A light dusting of loose powder will give skin that flawless, 50s finish.
Follow this with a natural shade of blusher that complements your skin tone to avoid looking washed out. There’s little-to-no emphasis on eyes here, just a touch of chocolate liner applied along the lash line, followed by brown mascara on top lashes only which gives a clean finish.
When working with matte lip shades it’s especially important to prep lips first with a good balm (I love Origins Lip Remedy) before applying colour as mattes show upany and all signs of dryness. MAC “What a Blast” Pro Longwear lip pencil (1) will give a lovely pop of colour for those who love tangerine shades while NARS Shiap lipstick (2) is great for anyone preferring pink.
