“Young, Bold and Beautiful” is how W Magazine describes Amanda Seyfried in its current issue and it’s hit the nail on the head with the April cover shoot. Strong, full on makeup like this can be aging in the wrong hands but by teaming it with a more relaxed, carefree hairstyle the overall effect is softened and given a freshness that is perfect for spring.
As this look features both eyes and lips it’s important to balance things out by choosing a base that leaves skin looking natural and glowing rather than too made up. YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat foundation (1) is ideal for times like this as its special formula doesn’t contain opaque fillers so gives coverage without ever caking. Define and contour cheekbones with a liquid bronzer such as The Body Shop Honey Bronze gel bronzer, then add a light dusting of powder down the center of the face to avoid shine.
Thick, liquid liner is a huge trend this year and a key feature of Amanda’s front cover makeup. I love Soap & Glory’s Supercat felt pen liner (2) as it’s really easy to control and gives a long lasting, highly pigmented finish. Start in the middle of the top lid and build up the line using small strokes, then match up to the inner corners.
To give eyes an almond shape, cut a pair of strip lashes in half and then apply them on the outer corners only, followed by lots of mascara. Groom brows by filling in gaps using a powder or pencil then brush a little clear mascara through them.
If you’re lucky enough to have large features like Amanda, apply a bright pink lipstick such as Maybelline Super Stay 14 Hr in Infinitely Fuchsia (3) straight from the bullet for a full-on finish. For smaller lips, or for anyone preferring a slightly more low-maintenance approach, dab lipstick on using finger tips so you still get the colour but it’s not as much of a focal point.
