Make no mistake, Yves Saint Laurent’s Black Fetish collection for Autumn 2014 is about all the makeup. All of it. This is beauty for cosmetic maximilists, so if you’re a fan of a lick of BB cream and a wash of nude gloss, click away into something else now.
Fans of vampy, OTT luxury and a lorra lippy, read on.
This collection, Black Fetish, harks back to Saint Laurent’s seventies vibe – that Studio 54, pals with Andy Warhol, Loulou de la Falaise as muse-style cool the brand is seeking to reincarnate with modern day faces like Cara Delevingne and Edie Campbell.
Leather, rock chick chic and a little hint of girl-on-girl in the press shot all hint at naughtiness. It helps that the products are bloody nice too; like, for example, the standout palette, Couture Palette Collector Fétiche, €55, contains five utterly wearable evening hues in creamy textures. There are three more re-promoted couture palettes (check those beautiful bad boys out here) in Rive Gauche, Avant Garde and Ballets Russes, but only the Couture Palette Collector Fétiche has a leather-effect outer casing:
The others make do with the regular gold.
There’s more for eyes in the form of two Baby Doll Eyeliners in Bleu Patine and Gris Vinyl, €31 each.
What marks this collection out is the lack of a cheek product – YSL is generally one for a collectible highlighter or blush, but nope, none here.
Instead, there’s lots for lips, like two Gloss Voluptes in Cuir Grenat and Beige Nu, €25 each, plus a pair of Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Levris in Beige Peau and Brun Cuir, €33 each.
We’ll also see four Rouge Pur Couture The Mats; two reds and two nudes. Shades’ll be Rose Perfecto, Fuchsia Fétiche, Red Rythm and Nude Accoustic. They’ll all be €33.
Lastly, there are two leather-look polishes for €24 each. Yep, something we’ve seen before – but great colours. Shades are Taupe Grainé and Bleu Galuchat.
Look for the lot on-counter in Mid-August. Will you be saving for anything?
