I have been waiting for these babies to drop on our shores since seeing them used in backstage pix from New York Fashion Week a couple of seasons ago, and come September, they’ll be firmly on our radars.

Maybelline Colour Elixir, €9.69, in 11 shades, is not a liquid lipstick as such – and which I’d initially thought. Instead, this is Maybelline’s answer to the glossy stain, and is your far cheaper way to get the look of YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres.

Nude Illusion; Blush Essence; Hibiscus Haven; Signature Scarlet; Alluring Coral; Mandarine Rupture.

I’ve got six shades pre-release. LOOK AT THEM. CHECK THEM OUT! Aren’t they beauties? Yes.

Also, packaging. Mmm.

It’s really nice; a very unique-looking lipstick bullet-in-plastic which denotes the shade of the product, and makes them look fun when they’re all lined up together. Plus, it’s very premium for the pricepoint – Dior echoed the look with the recently-released Fluid Stick.

Clearly, Aluring Coral is the shade for me, and the one I immediately gravitated to – though I actually like all the colours I was sent for testing bar the nude. But hey, I’m just not so into nudes – if you are, bingo. The tube is, admittedly a little confusing because you’re expecting opacity, and on the wand too, the colour is saturated.

Colour Eixirs swatch with different degrees of intensity, with brights looking more opaque and full. Like YSL’s offering, this is an oil and pigment suspension that feels cushiony and leaves a stain once the glossy bit has worn off, so if you love a shiny finish, then these are bit of better spend of your cash than a regular gloss – because at least you have something left to add colour until you can do a top-up.

This is Alluring Coral, ain’t it pretty? This isn’t a review (just a first look, y’all) so I can’t yet comment on longevity, how they wear and fade and comfort, but I’m liking what I see so far.

One you’ll pucker up for?
