Ever since big, bold and block coloured scarves of an, er, not so faux nature sashayed down the catwalks at Marni and Fendi a couple of seasons ago, you better believe that the material has been fur real in fashion terms.

But due to brands like Shrimps, faux is making inroads on the fashion consciousness, thanks to tech-savvy production methods that produce glossy synthetic pile that looks great. The high streets copping on too, natch, and if you’re after a big, fat scarf, cowl, tippet or snood this season (I am, I am!), you’re absolutely in luck, because there are bajillions of the buggers about.

Some are good; some are crap; some are really, really great. They’re the ones we’re featuring in this gallery, by the way. Check out the 12 we reckon you should be buying this AW14. One’s got my name on it already; can you guess which?

This River Island piece is a beauty in the flesh. €33 too, which is a steal if you ask me.

Eh, hello? Can anyone say Fendi? I'm getting this one, from Asos. It's the Faux Fur Multi Stripe Scarf and it's €50.

Dunnes, no less. I know - it looks teddy bear-soft. €25 for this piece from the Savida range.

Finds is a German high-end store which is now selling on Net-a-Porter. This piece, the Finds + Charlotte Simone Popsicle faux fur stole, €227.55, is very wantable indeed.

€19.99 from H&M? Sure lookit, you'd be mad not to.
This M&S piece would work well over a slim-fit coat, I think. It's the Collection Faux Fur Collar Scarf, €35.

Nasty Gal's Neck Yourself Faux Fur Scarf is €45.93.

I really like this New Look piece: big, brown and a brillo price, the Brown Faux Fox Fur Stole is just €22.99. Iknowrite?
If you can't bear to be parted from your faux fur this AW14, then this Next versh might be quite work-appropriate. €35 for the Grey Faux Fur Patch Scarf, yerhonner.

Ah, Shrimps. Let me count the ways I want this Ivana scarf, £175. That's not a lot for a scarf really, is it? Is it? Um?

Over at Topshop, they want to part you from £195 for a sheepskin stole (ok, it's not real fur but a sheep doesn't count, does it?) for the brand's collab with Marques'Almeida.

And lastly, trusty Zara, which (nearly) always comes up trumps. This Fur Snood with contrast dots is €39.95.
