This week I’m shining a spotlight on some makeup brands I love, but which you may have never heard of. The main reason for that is these types of products are geared towards makeup artists working in the industry, so they  aren’t stocked commercially*, and don’t have flashy packaging or advertising.

They might look a little boring but rest assured, it’s what’s inside that counts! Here’s what I rate.

Launched in 1967 by renowned Hollywood film makeup artist Ben Nye, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone working in film who doesn’t love these long lasting, highly pigmented products.

  • Best known for: Eye shadows and blushers – also check out the Pop Art lip colors.

Also know as the Research Council of Make-Up Artists, RCMA foundations contain more pigment and less wax/oil than commercial products, meaning a little goes a long way and fewer touch-ups are required throughout the day.

  • Best Known for: Being free from petrolatum, mineral oil, perfume or lanolin making them suitable for even the most sensitive skin.

3 Kryolan

After 66 years in business and a massive 16,000 products across the ranges, Kryolan has become one of the top makeup artist brands available. Intense shades and high quality formulas are their trademark.

  • Best known for: Special Effects, makeup brushes and Aqua Color palettes.

4 Kett Cosmetics

Founded by Sheila McKenna in 2003, Kett cosmetics are focused on creating products that are suitable for HD camera use, leaving skin smooth and flawless.

  • Best Known for: The airbrush systems, although both the foundations and liquid colours can be used with a sponge or brush application too. I love the Kett Fixx Creme Foundation Palette for contouring and sculpting.

*All brands are available online. Kryolan is stocked in Make Up For Ever, Clarendon St, Dublin.
