21 shades, a full coverage with no clunk promise that can actually be delivered in these days of refined formulation, and a built-in sponge tip that’s your applicator and blending tool in one: that’s Clinique’s 6th February-launching Beyond Perfecting Foundation and Concealer.
I had a chat with Florrie White about it last week – she’s Alexa Chung’s makeup artist and had been in and out the week before for Alexa’s Brown Thomas/Late Late double-whammy – and she reckons this is the kind of fuss-free base women who may not have ever worn foundation before are gonna like using.
The applicator – which is washable – should be dipped once, and once only. That’s enough, she says, to do your whole face. If you want to conceal or add extra coverage, use a little bit more – and this stuff IS pigmented. Not a water base by any means, it’s also nothing like the full cover foundations of old; it’s a thin-ish fluid that’s absolutely pigment-packed, so it will give you opacity. You can go lighter; you could of course use your own brush. And Clinique is promising 12 hour wear, which seems on the one hand, tiny compared to 25 hours, and on the other, very realistic.
Aimed at that 30+ customer who may have a normal to oily-prone skintype, if you’re sitting in that ballpark, then you’re ideally pitched for this. It’s also got oil-absorbing particles and hydration built in, so a bet for a combo skintype too. I’m not sure yet how my dry skin’ll fare with it because the shade I have is quite dark, but I’ll give it a go when I get one that suits, fo sho.
In general I find Clinique foundations to be solid; Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer is one I love a lot. This looks pretty promising too. Is it one you’ll keep an eye out for?
