Q: How do you do Christmas party dressing, comfortably?

A: You wear all the sequins, dresses and sparkle you want up top, but down below, you say buh-bye to heels and you wear some rad looking flat shoes instead. I’m not talking smelly ballerina pumps, BBZ. I’m talking elegant flat shoes; the sort put-together types wear with chic cigarette pants all the better to make you jealous of their super grown-up lives.

Happily, there are a lot of slim, elegant loafers in mixed metals, pretty glitters, velvets with embellished details and brocade slippers knocking about the shops right now. They’re perfect for parties and there’s absolutely no fashion rule that (I say) can’t be broken.

Bonus: no falling off/out of your shoes this year after a few too many at the office party. Who could say no to that?
