Shu Uemura Christmas 2013 palette designed by Takashi Murakami

Dark Princess Palette

October 27th's the launch date for the holiday collection from Shu Uemura, which'll include two standout illustrated palettes designed by Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami as well as two lash sets (one super OTT, the other more neutral), a couple of the brand's cleansing oils in illustrated wrappers, a mini curler with signature Murakami flower charm and two long wear gel eye pencils.

The two palettes are clearly the star of the show and with no euro pricing yet, they're looking likely to be in and around £50. The sterling-to-euro translation with Shu is very good, so fingers crossed we won't pay through the nose.

Enough with the princess already as a marketing tactic, brands.

The palettes contain beautifully edited shadow and blush collections with excellent, creamy and saturated pigmentation and come in two edits: pink princess and dark princess, which is, I think, the only thing that lets them down.

Enough, PLEASE, with this relentless princess bullshit. It's unhelpful, stereotype-enforcing and adult women just do not need to be referring to themselves as princesses. It is, in Shu's defense, apparently a reference and tie-in to a forthcoming Murakami film, but the point stands.

Enough with the princess already as a marketing tactic, brands.

The Dark Princess Palette - the standout for me.

And swatches. Metallics, creamy shimmers and deep, buttery pigmentation are the hallmarks of both. Princessy notions aside, these are beautiful kits and the dark one in particular is a stunner; there isn't a shade I wouldn't happily use.

Oh lord, the dark princess is so pretty - and I don't think the princess bull**** is quite as bullsh**** in manga/anime/Japan as it is here, but I could be wrong - but I never wear purple shadow, and the other one is very pink. Will I be sucked in by the packaging? I wouldn't rule it out.

ah yeah they're lovely, so nice. The princess thing, at the pricepoint and to the customer Shu's marketed at here, it's just ... ah HEYOR.

It's just not at all market-adapted other than the language I guess. definitely going to have a poke at them when they land.

You're pretty insulting with your rant, its not "princess bullshit". Educate yourself on the designer, his work, and the anime. The point doesn't stand. You're projecting your own negative connotations about princesses onto the theme of this collection.

I appreciate u loved the palettes. I do too! Especially the dark princess one. But I agree with the commenters. The review was off putting and really rude and disrespectful in my opinion. I'm japanese myself and hearing this makes me wish the collection was japan exclusive only if people are going to be this rude towards a geniuses artwork. If these palettes were on canvas you would see its worth.
