Just so we’re all clear and cool on all aspects of interactions on Frillseeker.ie, please have a read of the following policies on commenting, disclosure and privacy and cookies. All policies are subject to change at any time.

COMMENTING

I really hope you enjoy Frillseeker enough to want to sit down and have a chat. Here are a few house rules I hope you’ll abide by so that everyone has a nice experience.  The aim is that the site provides a welcoming environment for readers.

Manners and responsibility

Opinions and comment are incredibly welcome on Frillseeker. It goes without saying that we’re not all going to agree all of the time and that’s fine. But let’s respect others’ differing opinions and disagree politely without resorting to ad hominen attacks and insults.

Do be aware that what you say online is your own responsibility – and I cannot always be responsible for removing it for you afterwards if you feel you commented rashly, in anger, or revealed too much personal information about yourself etc.  Your comments are your responsibility: remember that.

In other words, think you before you type.

Spam/Links

I don’t allow comments that are obviously advertising a product, service or individual. Frillseeker.ie is a small business itself and can’t support others using it this way for their own profit or gain. Contact me if you’d like to try to work something out.  I hope we’ll be able to sort something we’ll both get a good result from.

Likewise, I don’t tolerate self-serving and irrelevant comments with extra links, so please don’t do it.

Excessive links in comments are also set to send the comment to spam.

Freedom of speech

A much misunderstood get-out-of-jail free clause online for those who want to cause havoc, let me just make this very clear. This isn’t the United Nations and I’m not Kofi Annan (least not last time I checked). Freedom of speech is actually a protected right and does have conditions. To draw a comparison in the real world, this is my hotel-slash-bar-slash-coffee shop you’re in – so please respect that.  Yes, it is a small business open to the public online, but like in any other public business, if you behave badly while you’re in it, then it is highly likely you will be asked to leave.

Removal or editing of comments/banning of an individual

Comments may be removed or edited if:

  • They are personally hurtful to another user/author – that includes concern trolling
  • They are defamatory, racist, sexist, profane etc
  • They contain irrelevant links
  • There’s continuing evidence of a clear agenda from the commenter, e.g. political, religious etc

And do be aware that even if you think I don’t know how, anonymous commenters can always be traced one way or another. And I’m pretty good at it.
